Which one are you?

The scores don't move. What the pairing is asking of you does — and this is also the side whose default ordering you can load into the exercise below.

Both sides · Romance

Ninety per cent, and the honest version of that figure is this: you will not fail at anything you can put on a list. Taurus sits at 30–60° of the zodiac and Capricorn at 270–300°, exactly 120° apart — a trine, in the same element, which is the smoothest geometry the wheel offers. But run the essential dignities and something much more specific shows up. The Moon is exalted in Taurus and in detriment in Capricorn. Mars is exalted in Capricorn and in detriment in Taurus. Across all sixty-six sign pairs that crossover happens exactly once, and this is it. Each of you is genuinely excellent at the thing the other treats as an overhead — and because you are, neither of you ever has to get better at it.

Love

85%

Strong, slow to start and almost impossible to disturb once it has. It is also ten points under the trust score, and that gap is the widest on the site — every pairing that reaches it is a Capricorn one.

Friendship

92%

Seven points above love, which is rare and worth reading properly. You would pick each other for a long drive, a house move or a crisis before you would pick each other for a weekend of nothing in particular.

Communication

82%

The weakest axis, and it is not that you cannot talk. It is that neither of you has a natural way to say “I do not want to wait for that,” because both of you were raised on the idea that waiting is the mature answer.

Trust

95%

The highest number we give any pairing, shared only with Taurus–Virgo and Capricorn–Virgo. All three are legs of the Earth trine. Nothing outside Earth reaches 95.

Why these two fit so exactly

Run the essential dignities and one arrangement shows up here that shows up nowhere else on the wheel. The Moon is exalted in Taurus and in detriment in Capricorn. Mars is exalted in Capricorn and in detriment in Taurus. Of the sixty-six sign pairs, ten have that crossover one way round. Exactly one has it both ways.

The Order of Works

Six things a Capricorn–Taurus couple both want. You agree on all six — that has never been the problem. Click them in the order you would actually do them, because that is the only thing you will ever really disagree about, and it is the one thing that cannot be split down the middle. Three of these compound and get cheaper the earlier they go. Three of them expire.

Pick which sign you are above to start. You'll be the one setting the order.

Five collisions, and where each of you quietly moves it to

Nobody raises their voice in any of these. Cardinal Earth and Fixed Earth do not fight — they reschedule, separately, without telling each other. Open one to see both sides, the deferral each of you makes, and what it actually costs in months.

How This Works

  1. 1.The 90% starts from geometry. Taurus occupies 30–60° of the zodiac and Capricorn 270–300°, which is 120° apart — a trine, in the same element. Then the modalities set the texture: Cardinal plus Fixed means one of you opens the file and the other one refuses to close it badly.
  2. 2.The overall figure is notthe average of the four bars. It is the synastry score — element, modality, aspect, and the condition of each sign's ruler and exaltation in the other sign. The bars read four functions separately, which is why 90% sits above an axis average of 88.5%.
  3. 3.Changing the relationship type moves the numbers, and this pairing has a signature nothing else on the site has: living together pushes the overall up to 92% while love drops five points to 80%. Both moves come from the same fact — everything that compounds gets better with time here, and everything that expires does not.
  4. 4.Choosing a side never changes a score. Compatibility is symmetric; living inside it is not. The percentages hold, and the written verdict, the ordering advice and the highlighted flashpoint panel all switch to your side of it.
  5. 5.In The Order of Works, position is everything and there is no partial credit — a sequence cannot be hedged. Across all 720 possible orderings, only 46 finish with the structure intact andnothing expired, and every single one of them spends slot one or two on agreeing what counts as enough. Neither sign's own default ordering gets there.

Capricorn and Taurus Compatibility: 90%, and Ten Years That Went Somewhere

Capricorn and Taurus compatibility scores 90% on this site, which raises an awkward question: why does a pairing this well matched so often end up as two people who are genuinely devoted to each other and about four years behind their own lives? The usual answer you will find is that Earth signs are slow. That is not it. Slow would be fine — slow is what both of these signs are for. What actually happens is stranger, and it is written into the dignities in a way that shows up in exactly one pair out of sixty-six.

You Will Never Have the Fight Everyone Warns You About

Every guide to this pairing hedges the same way: two Earth signs, stable and loyal, but watch out for stubbornness and a lack of spark. Half of that is right and the warning is pointed at the wrong thing entirely. Stubbornness needs two people willing to hold a position out loud, and this combination will not do that. Mars is in detriment in Taurus, so the sign has no clean mechanism for forcing a confrontation. Capricorn has Mars exalted and therefore does not need one — Saturn wins by outlasting, not by escalating. Put those two together and you get a relationship with no functioning argument in it at all.

That sounds like a blessing for about six years. What replaces the argument is a queue. Every point of friction that another couple would settle in a bad twenty minutes gets converted here into a scheduling decision that nobody announces, and scheduling decisions do not resolve. They just move.

One Pair in Sixty-Six Does This, and It's This One

Here is the finding this whole page is built on, and I have not seen it made anywhere else. The Moon is exalted in Taurus and in detriment in Capricorn. Mars is exalted in Capricorn and in detriment in Taurus. Each of these two signs is the place where a planet does its very best work — and that same planet is debilitated in the other sign.

Run that test across all sixty-six possible sign pairs and it happens once. Ten pairs have it one way round: one sign's exalted planet is in detriment in the other, but not the reverse. Aries and Aquarius do it, Cancer and Virgo do it, Leo and Libra do it. Only Taurus and Capricorn have it both ways. That is not decoration, and it is not the same claim as the mutual fall that makes Cancer and Scorpio unique, which involves each sign's ruler landing in fall. Different dignity, different mechanism — and, oddly, the same two planets.

What Being Exalted at Something Actually Buys You

Essential dignity is just a ranking of how well a planet functions in a given sign, and exaltation is the honoured-guest position — the planet is not at home, but it is treated better than it is anywhere else. Detriment is the opposite: the planet is in the sign directly across from the one it rules, working against the local grain.

Translate that. The Moon exalted in Taurus means a Taurus has a working internal gauge for sufficiency. They can tell, physically, when something is enough — enough money, enough food, enough house, enough of a bad day. It is not a philosophy, it is closer to proprioception. The Moon in detriment in Capricorn means that gauge is not installed. A Capricorn does not experience the absence as a lack; they experience a target instead, and the target relocates every time it is reached.

Mars exalted in Capricorn means effort held steady over years with no feedback — the single most useful capacity in the zodiac and the rarest. Mars in detriment in Taurus means a Taurus can hold a position forever and cannot generate a push. So each of you is world-class at precisely the faculty the other one lacks. That is why the trust score is 95%. It is also why neither of you will ever be forced to develop the missing one.

Nobody Argues About What. Everybody Argues About When.

Ask a Capricorn–Taurus couple what they want and you will get one list, agreed, with no hedging. The house, the work, the child, the trip, the health thing, the point at which they stop. Ask them what order and the room changes temperature. Capricorn sorts by unlock order: do the thing that makes the next thing cheaper. That ranking is correct for almost everything, and Saturn is right that patience compounds.

The problem is that it is not correct for everything. Some items on that list are not waiting. A body at forty-three is not a body at thirty-four; a window for a child, or for a parent's last good decade, closes on a schedule that has nothing to do with when your income improves. Taurus can feel which items those are and cannot argue for them, because arguing requires Mars and Mars is in detriment there. So the feeling gets mentioned once, warmly, and then dropped.

And here is the part that makes it hard to fix: a sequence cannot be hedged. You can split money, split chores, split attention, meet in the middle on almost any resource. You cannot half-do position one. Whatever goes first, goes first, and every negotiating instinct these two signs have — compromise, patience, proportion — is useless against a decision shaped like that. The exercise at the top of this page exists to make that concrete, and it is genuinely uncomfortable the first time through.

The Earth Trine Ranks Backwards From the Water Trine

There is a neat piece of corroboration sitting in our own scores. Each element contains three trine pairs, and each pair is one of three modality combinations. Here are the two receptive elements side by side:

ModalitiesWater pairScoreEarth pairScore
Cardinal + FixedCancer – Scorpio94% (best)Capricorn – Taurus90% (worst)
Fixed + MutableScorpio – Pisces93%Taurus – Virgo92% (best)
Cardinal + MutableCancer – Pisces92% (worst)Capricorn – Virgo91%

The two columns run in opposite directions, and the modality combination that tops the Water trine sits at the bottom of the Earth one. The reason is that the two elements are short of different things. Water's deficit is pushback — somebody who will hold a line — and Fixed Water supplies it, which is why Scorpio lifts every Water pair it touches. Earth is not short of pushback. Earth is short of revision, and the only Earth sign that revises is the Mutable one. Both Earth pairs containing Virgo outscore the one that does not, on the overall figure and on communication.

Capricorn and Taurus is the Earth trine with the editor removed. Cardinal starts, Fixed sustains, and nobody in the building is structurally inclined to say "this plan is wrong, change it." Which is exactly why the mechanic on this page is a sequence you commit to rather than a dial you can keep adjusting.

95% Trust Is the Highest Figure on This Site

Across every pairing we score, 95% trust is the ceiling, and only three combinations reach it: Taurus–Virgo, Capricorn–Virgo and this one. All three are legs of the Earth trine. Nothing outside Earth gets there — Cancer and Scorpio, which beats this pairing on overall score and on love, tops out at 90% trust.

Earth buys that reliability at a price, and the price is visible in the same table. This pairing's love score is 85%, ten points under its trust score, and that ten-point gap is the widest of any pairing we publish. Every combination that reaches it is a Capricorn one. Read it as a description rather than a criticism: a relationship where being depended on is more fluent than being wanted. Most people who have lived inside one will recognise the shape immediately.

The Hardest Sign in the Zodiac Meets the Softest Earth Sign

One more piece of arithmetic, because it explains the temperature difference between these two people better than any personality description. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn and exalts Mars — the two classical malefics, the hard planets, the ones the tradition associates with limitation and force. Check every sign and it is the only one where both dignified planets are malefic.

Taurus is the mirror image within Earth: ruled by Venus, the lesser benefic, and exalting the Moon. It is the only Earth sign whose two dignified bodies are both gentle ones. So this trine, which every other guide describes as two similar signs getting along, is actually the hardest sign on the wheel paired with the softest sign in its own element. The shared element is real and it is doing less work than you have been told — what Capricorn is actually made of has very little in common with what Taurus is made of beyond a preference for things that last.

There is a nice literal echo of this. Capricorn begins at the December solstice — 0° Capricorn is the solstice point, which is why the Tropic of Capricorn carries the name, although precession has since moved the actual solstice sun into Sagittarius. It is the floor of the year: the shortest day, the point from which everything accumulates. Taurus sits in the middle of spring, when the accumulating is already done and the job is to enjoy it without wrecking it. That is the whole relationship in two positions on a circle.

For Capricorn This Is the Best It Gets. For Taurus It Isn't.

Compatibility is symmetric — the score is a property of the pair, not of a person — but preference is not, and this pairing is a good demonstration. Across everything we score, 85% is Capricorn's joint-highest love figure anywhere on the wheel, tied only with Virgo. There is no combination available to a Capricorn that reads warmer than this one.

For Taurus it is fourth. Scorpio beats it at 88%, Virgo beats it at 88%, and Cancer beats it at 88% too. None of those three is more stable — the Cancer pairing in particular runs four points lower overall and loses its years to a completely different mechanism, things that never get said rather than things that never get dated. But all three are warmer.

The practical consequence is worth naming, because couples run into it without having words for it. The Capricorn in this relationship is very likely getting the most affection they will ever get. The Taurus is getting the most security they will ever get, and possibly settling on warmth. Neither of those is a reason to leave. Both are reasons to stop assuming the other person is experiencing the same relationship you are.

When Two Earth Signs Are the Wrong Idea

If either of you is coming out of something that needs processing rather than reorganising, be careful. This pairing is superb at building a container around a problem and has almost no instinct for opening one. Grief in particular gets handled here by getting the estate in order, and it works, right up until the year it does not.

If you are someone who needs to be actively pursued, this is a hard combination. Fixed signs do not chase, and Cardinal Earth initiates toward projects rather than toward people. Nobody is withholding anything. The bid simply will not be answered in the currency it was made in.

And if you are in your late thirties with an item on the list that has a real deadline attached, treat this page's central warning as the actual advice rather than as colour. Two signs that both default to "after the next thing" will produce a decision by expiry, and it will feel at the time like patience. Check where your Moon and your Saturn actually sit before you assume your Sun signs are running the timing — a full birth chart will often show one of you with far more urgency available than the Sun sign suggests.

Sort the List by a Different Key

Everything above reduces to one habit, and it is small enough to be annoying.

Ask which items get worse, not which are harder. Once a year, out loud, go through the plan and mark anything that is measurably worse in three years than it is today. Not more difficult — worse. Anything that answers yes jumps the queue regardless of what it unlocks. This single question overrides the unlock ranking that both of you default to, and it takes an evening.

Say a figure for enough, and say it early. It is the cheapest item on the list and the one you will both schedule last, and it is the only move available to this pairing that costs nothing. A Capricorn with no agreed number will keep moving the line honestly and indefinitely. A Taurus who has never stated theirs is not being modest, they are assuming that contentment is legible from the outside. It is not.

Convert every yes into a date on the same day. Agreement is not a decision in this house — it is a decision that has not been scheduled, and the difference between those two things is where the years go. If the date is genuinely unknowable, say the queue instead: it is third, behind these two, and I expect to start it in April. Neither of you needs a better relationship. You need the same list, sorted by a different key.

Frequently Asked Questions

Because agreement and scheduling are separate events for a Capricorn, and only the first one has happened. Saturn ranks everything by what it unlocks, so a thing you both want gets filed behind whatever raises the ceiling first, and the filing is silent — they think the queue is obvious and you think a decision was made. Ask for a date rather than a yes, because a Capricorn will honour a date and will genuinely not register that a yes was ever a commitment.
Almost never, and it is the least reassuring thing about them. Both signs treat a raised voice as a loss of control and both are patient enough to wait a disagreement out, so friction gets converted into scheduling instead of conflict. What replaces the argument is a slow queue of things that were agreed and never dated. Couples here typically go a decade without a serious row and end up four years behind their own plans.
Yes, and unusually consistent about it — Venus rules Taurus and the Moon is exalted there, which makes physical pleasure a legitimate value rather than a reward, and Capricorn is far more sensual in private than its reputation suggests. The risk is not chemistry, it is scheduling. This is the pairing most likely to let a good physical relationship thin out because both of them keep treating it as the thing that can wait until the quarter is finished.
It is the best version of this pairing, and we score work at 93% against 90% for dating. A company has no perishable items — nothing in it has a body, an age limit or a window that closes — so the couple's one structural bias, deferring the thing with a clock in it, is simply correct in a commercial context and quietly ruinous in a domestic one. Split the roles the way the chart already does: Capricorn sets the sequence, Taurus holds the standard.
Much the same as any arrangement of the two, because the engine here is Cardinal Earth meeting Fixed Earth rather than gender. One of them starts the build and ranks everything by what it unlocks; the other holds the quality line and refuses to be hurried. Use the perspective toggle above as Cardinal Earth versus Fixed Earth and the reading holds whichever way round the signs sit.
Because the Moon is exalted in Taurus and in detriment in Capricorn, and that single fact is most of your relationship. Taurus has a working internal signal for enough — a real, physical sense of sufficiency — and Capricorn does not have that instrument at all, so it substitutes a target and then replaces the target on arrival. Agree an actual figure out loud, early, because it is the only thing that stops a Capricorn from moving the line every time you reach it.
Capricorn, and much later than you would expect. Taurus is Fixed and will stay in something long past the point of enjoying it, while Capricorn is Cardinal and can execute a decision it has been privately holding for two years. The warning sign is not coldness, which is normal here, but a Capricorn who stops proposing new projects — in this pairing, planning is affection, and its absence means more than silence does.
It sits in our top six of the 78 pairings we score, though four pairs reach 93% or 94%. The number worth noticing on this page is not the 90 but the trust figure of 95%, which is the highest we give any pairing anywhere, shared only with Taurus and Virgo and Capricorn and Virgo. All three are legs of the Earth trine, which tells you something real: Earth buys reliability at a discount and pays for it on the love axis, where 85% is beaten by more than a dozen other combinations.
